International Journal of Chemical Research , 2011,
Abstract: Polymer blends were prepared in the presence and absence of cross linking agent like glutaraldehyde.Ternary blends were prepared by mixing of carboxymethyl cellulose, chitosan and starch, in the various ratios inpresence and absence of the cross linking agent like glutaraldehyde. The characterization of various polymeric blendswere carried out by advanced analytical techniques such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-raydiffraction (XRD) and Thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA). The obtained results of IR studies reveal the presence ofcross linking between the polymers and cross linking agents. From the results of DSC and TGA it was concluded thatthe blend prepared with glutaraldehyde as a cross linking agent was found to be highly thermally stable. The presentstudy reveals that the polymer blends are very strong in the presence of cross linking agent than in the absence ofcross linking agent. The results are discussed.
Interaction Effects of Insecticides on Enzyme Activities in Black Clay Soil from Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) Fields

Abstract: In practice pesticides are extensively used in agriculture as a part of pest control strategies. Two insecticides, endosulfan (organochlorine) and profenophos (organophosphate), were assessed for their effects on the activities of protease (in terms of tyrosine formed from casein) and urease (as ammonia released from urea) in soil, collected from a fallow groundnut field by applications of insecticides at normal field rates and at higher concentrations (1.0, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5, 10.0 kg ha-1), in a laboratory study. The results showed a strong positive influence on protease and urease enzyme activities in soil treated with 2.5 and 5.0 kg ha-1 dry soil and they were significantly (P ≤ 0.05) higher than the control over the course of incubation. In soil treatment, there was a significant increase in protease and decrease in urease activities after 24h of incubation which continued up to 20 days. However, a significant decrease in both protease and urease enzyme activities was observed in 30 and 40 days of incubation. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.5755/j01.erem.60.2.671

Abstract: Acanthamoeba is a protozoa that can lead to severe ocular disease and sequelae. Although intraocular Acanthamoeba infection is rare, the following case demonstrates an unusual presentation of recurrent Acanthamoeba infection in a 30 year old contact lens wearing male
Effects of Storage Period and Temperature on Seed Viability of Wheat
Syeda Nasreen
Pakistan Journal of Biological Sciences , 1999,
Abstract: The study was conducted to investigate the effects of storage temperature and storage period on seed viability of a wheat variety, Rawal-87. The seed moisture content and seed viability were determined in control which were 8.0 per cent and 90 per cent respectively. The interaction among storage period and storage temperature was statistically significant. In wheat, the maximum seed viability was observed at -20 and 5 C after 12 months storage. A decline in germination percentage was observed at 50 C after 4 months. Germination per cent age was higher when petri dishes were used for germination tests. During germplasm storage of wheat, storage temperature and storage period play an important role.
Effects of Storage Temperature, Storage Period and Seed Moisture Content on Seed Viability of Mash Bean (Vigna mungo)
Syeda Nasreen
Pakistan Journal of Biological Sciences , 2000,
Abstract: The study was conducted to investigate the effects of different storage conditions on seed viability of mush bean, variety Mash-3. Three factors were included period and seed moisture content. Viability and Moisture content were determined in control which were 91.0 and 8.0 per cent respectively. The maximum germination percentage was observed in seeds with low moisture content. There was a decline in germination percentage after 90 days of storage at all temperatures in seeds with high and medium moisture contents. High moisture content and high temperature decreases germinability of seeds. The storage life of mashbean can be increased by lowering temperature and seed moisture content during storage.
Detecting Seed Borne Fungi of Soybean by Different Incubation Methods
Nasreen Nasir
Plant Pathology Journal , 2003,
Abstract: A total number of 39 species of fungi belonging to 15 genera were isolated from 6-month old soybean seeds by four incubation methods from Sindh, a province of 14.1 m hac. out of 79.7 m hac. of land constituting Pakistan. Of the 4 methods employed for the isolation of seed borne fungi, incubation by PDA method yielded the highest number of fungal members either with or without the treatment of disinfectant. Incubation of seeds on blotting papers yielded lesser number of fungal species and the number of fungi gradually got reduced on component plating and the least number of fungi appeared by deep freezing method (-20 C).A comparative study of the literature on seed borne fungi of soybean revealed a taxonomic similarity among fungal isolates, in particular between Iran and India which are situated on the west and east of Pakistan respectively. Since the environmental factors for the growth and reproduction of fungi causing plant diseases in the 3 countries are more or less similar, a common strategy for the control of plant diseases on regional basis may prove useful on the pattern of locust control carried out by FAO.
Effect of Fungicides in Limiting the Growth of Seed Borne Fungi of Soybean
Nasreen Nasir
Plant Pathology Journal , 2003,
Abstract: Six most predominantly occurring fungi on seeds of soybean were grown on PDA medium amended with five systematic fungicides for evaluating its effect on growth. The growth of Alternaria alternata, Cladosporium cladosporoides, Macrophomina phaseolina, Drechslera specifera, Fusarium oxysporum and Rhizoctonia solani were significantly reduced on PDA medium amended with 0.1% of either Captan, Vitavax, Dithane M45, Thiram and Benomyl. Of the five fungicides, Benomyl was found to be the most effective.
FUNCTIONAL AND RELATIONAL VALUE INFLUENCE ON COMMITMENT AND FUTURE INTENTION: THE CASE OF BANKING INDUSTRY
Nasreen KHAN
Journal of International Social Research , 2010,
Abstract: Consumers do differ in the evaluation of value between products and services. This study aims to identify the perceived value dimensions as functional and relational value to investigate the relationship between each dimension of perceived value with the future intention and also to examine the commitment as a mediator role between multi dimensions of perceived value and future intention. Factor analysis indicated six dimensions of perceived value as functional service quality, functional service price, functional service value, relational confidence and relational communication. Step wise regressions analysis further observed that functional service value, functional service quality, relational confidence and relational communications are the better predictors to the future intention. Among these dimensions, relational confidence is fully mediated by the commitment, and leads to future intention. The limitations of this study are discussed and suggestions for future research are also put forward.
